Data Protector Agent Windows 2008 – Cannot connect to the SCM

When installing the Data Protector Agent to a Windows 2008 R2 Server the following errormessage appeared:

[Critical]  Cannot connect to the SCM (Service Control Manager) on client <clientname>
[5] Access is denied.

What we need to do now is to add a User with admin rights to the INET Service. Open a command prompt and enter these commands:

C:\Program Files\OmniBack\bin>omniinetpasswd.exe -list

This will show you if there are any users configured already

Now add a user to the INET Service. This user should have administrative permissions and – of course – this user should already be created in your AD.

C:\Program Files\OmniBack\bin>omniinetpasswd.exe -add <domain>\dataprotector
Please enter password:**********
Please retype password:**********
User '<domain>\dataprotector' was successfully added.

Last step is to add this useraccount to be used by the installation service:

omniinetpasswd.exe -inst_srv_user <domain>\dataprotector
User '<domain>\dataprotector' is configured to be used by Installation Server.

how to add client? could you tell me that i must setting and configure on my solman server?
    thanks

    • Hello Anna,

I’m not sure if I understand you right. Just to clarify: What client agent do you want to install on the Windows 2008 server? What do you mean with “SOLMAN”.
You can try to install the client on the target server itself (install the disk agent) and then import the server to the Cell Manager. Hope this helps.

      • Anna Rosalina says:

yes, i wanto to install a agent client on windows 2008 server.
        Solman is sap solution manager.
your advice has been implement too. but when i want to create backup database on this server, so i must to add client on this cell manager.

Not sure where I have to type this. On the installation server? On the cell manager? Or on the 2008 client to be installed?
If it’s on the client, it’s a chicken and egg problem because there is not yet any DP installation there, so no CLI components available 🙂

  8. Koen says:

Do it on you ‘re installation server , normally it is a window server for the windows clients

  9. kamiltitera says:

or use -modify (C:\Program Files\OmniBack\bin>omniinetpasswd.exe -modify) to just change password
